June 2020

Marion Visit June 5th and 6th:

We had many wonderful visits with the Grandparents this summer. It was fun to get away, swim in the pool, and visit. Riley received a pink guitar from Grandma and Papa for her birthday and is trying it out with Papa.  Everybody was doing great practicing swimming and gaining confidence in the pool! August could swim from the edge to a tote in the middle of the pool where he could stand then swim back.

Checking on the tadpoles at Moore Park

One of our summer projects was to explore pond life at a pond nearby. It was fun to see the tadpoles grow into tiny frogs. We went back weekly to observe any changes. We saw painted turtles, ducks, fish, tadpoles, bullfrogs, and the bugs that skate across the surface of the water. There is a natural prairie nearby also so there is a nice variety of birds that like to live in the park.

Lets go!

The Kids Made a Band

As you can see from Riley's smile in the below picture, she really loves the guitar! The kids occasionally get all of our music items out and make a band together.

The Garden and Bird Watching

I always enjoy planting a vegetable garden and taking care of the flower garden. I like a flower garden that is cared for but looks a little bit wild, like you would see in front of a cottage. It makes me feel happy to spend time there because of all the color, the butterflies, and birds that they attract. The kids and I like to pick bouquets for the table also.

Christmas 2019 I received a bird feeder and I have enjoyed seeing the variety of birds that have been visiting. The kids and I have learned their names and some of the sounds that they make. I have also added a bird bath and another feeder.

This hawk appeared one day and was also enjoying the bird feeder. It tried but didn't catch any of the birds.

On this day we had a nice campfire lunch and just played in the yard!

Riley, August, and Nora helped to plant, and harvest the garden. Nora is eating a snap pea in this picture. I think they like eating the vegetables better out in the garden than when they are served at dinner.
