Loess Hills Trip

 September 2021

Keenan and I enjoyed a trip to the Loess Hills of western Iowa. It was fun to get to hike around this unique geologic formation made by glaciers coming and receding, leaving silt in the Missouri river valley, then that silt being blown by strong winter winds to slowly form the hills as this cycle repeated. I enjoyed getting to spend time with just Keenan and also spend time outside taking pictures!

We had a mishaps with the B and B smelling strongly of cigarette smoke but we found a nice hotel to stay at the next few nights. The hiking was fantastic and there was an amazing restaurant called Twisted Tale in Logan, Iowa with nothing else around it. We had fantastic lamb kebabs in Omaha at a very normal looking strip mall type building. I loved the lavender farm and we enjoyed a movie night in Council Bluffs. It was a much needed close get away but I noticed things that would be fun to do with the kids on another visit!

This was a beautiful lookout area

I adore finding moss and fungus

There were so many wildflowers that I did not know

We loved the river of lighter colored grass in this area

These noisy creatures were heard often

We had a lot of fun exploring this lavender farm! We bought lavender buds to bring home and try in a thin but tasty cookie recipe that the shop provided. we brought home teas, fancy cloth coasters, and lavender essential oil that we have enjoyed in the diffuser. I enjoyed following bees around on the lavender blossoms but I really liked their pond area. There were so many frogs there that made the most adorable chirrip sound as they hopped away from us.

I would say ribbit but it was more of a chirrip

Just following bees around
