Our kids like to paint and often. I feel like the messier the activity the better. We get out the paints 1 or 2 times a week. Riley stays at the table a long time. August has fun experimenting for a bit and then wants down to pursue something else. I have so much fun watching their progress!
Riley is such a wonderful big sister and helper for me! She is always wanting to help and make Nora laugh. Sometimes she holds her on the floor like this for a long time just letting her play with toys. Riley even helps give Nora bites of baby food sometimes when I am getting stuff ready in the kitchen.
Riley Turns 5!!
Riley turned 5 this past Wednesday! We had a wonderful day. When she emerged from her room in the morning she loved the balloons and streamers decorating her doorway. She chose a special birthday breakfast of pancakes! They batted the balloons around while I was getting the pancakes cooked.
It was beautiful out so we had to seize the opportunity and play outside of course. They had a lot of fun on the swings. After lunch we went to the park where they made some friends for the day and had fun running around.
At dinner, Riley chose chicken parmesan, one of her favorites, followed by banana muffins for dessert. We had some friends over for dinner, too, which made it extra special!
Unfortunately, I picked this day to come down with an extra special cold. It really knocked me out; I was so tired by the end of the day.
Riley is doing really well at preschool and seems to know many of the other teachers and helpers aside from her own. She is very social. She has made a lot of progress with writing and letter sounds, so I have seen her sounding out some simple words on her own! She is smart but also very strong willed, so if it is my idea sometimes we struggle. Since starting school, I can use whatever they are learning as a jumping off point to talk with her about at home and that has been working well.
She is my first baby, my kindhearted and snuggly girl who is always thinking of others and we love her so much. I am excited to see all of the wonderful things that she is going to do!
The Pirate and the Adventurer
After all the rain the week before we have had a lovely stretch of sunny days. Riley put on her adventure vest and set outside with her pirate brother to see what they could see. Mostly they liked watching the bees enjoying our creeping charlie. We also caught a pet spider in a peanut butter jar and Riley dubbed it Rosy.
Tea Party 5th Birthday Party
Riley loves having everyone over for her birthday. It is so fun to watch all the cousins play and bond.
This year she is old enough to choose some of the things that she wanted for her birthday. She wanted a tea party because that is just one of the things that she likes to play right now. She also wanted strawberry shortcake as inspired by a book we read often about a rooster that is tired of chicken feed and wants something new. It's a funny and silly book.
So, getting a cold the week of the party that makes you really sleepy ... not a good plan. What is a good plan: having an awesome family that helps with the cooking! Thank you!
Riley loves anything crafty so I think the decorating-a-hat and making-a-candy-necklace activities were a great success! (Thank you Aunt Stacy and Aunt Kristen for supervising while I fed Nora.) She spent even more time the next day on her hat.
